Description
Maahes was the ancient Egyptian god of war. He was depicted as a lion, sometimes (as here) with a solar disk and uraeus (serpent) on his head. Maahes was the guardian of sacred places. He protected the pharaoh in battle, the sun god Ra, and the innocent dead, but condemned the damned. This image of Maahes was taken at the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo and enhanced in Photoshop. The actual statue is a dull grey.
