Still Life With The Artist
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Self portrait as a fallen angel with Vermeer's "The procuress" detail (the hands)and several parts of different classical still lives, from XVII century flemish to cubist. The foggy background represents the neighbourhood of Nachlaot in jeruselem, where lives the artist.
Richard thomas wrote an interesting interpretation of this piece: "A fallen angel seeking (re)ascension, the artist is level on the table with meat, the carnal condition. The horseshoe crab an ancient emergent from the sea, suggests a long lineage of (carnal) DNA. The basics from which we come, and away from which we aspire. The ladder (possible easel) leads upwards... Artist has one arm (for painting), one wing - so cannot fly. The artist's gaze is upwards, past even the helping hands extended from the artwork, his arm and head are in pencil, B&W, suggesting an unfinished project of yearning and fantasy of ascent. Are we fallen, or do we just imagine we would enjoy the vie".
