Description:

NASA's 747SP N747NA, the Stratospheric Observatory For Infra-red Astronomy (SOFIA) is housed in the newly dedicated Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility. An 8-foot diameter infra-red telescope will look out through the large opening of the fuselage. The 747SP will carry the telescope above most of the water vapor in the atmosphere to provide a clear view of space. Even shooting with white balance set to Tungsten, the lighting in the DAOF was very yellow so I assembled a black & white version of the panorama. This picture was assembled from over 100 frames and has a field of view of about 160 degrees. It is available as prints as large as 48" x 72" at 300 pixels per inch.
