Strength For The Journey
Drawing - Graphite, Carbon, Charcoal
Those who have endured handicaps have always been important to me. It is extremely difficult for anyone to watch their own abilities wane away, whether they be physical or mental in nature. Such changes can leave a person with deep feelings of helplessness, depression, and despair.
I know a little about that sensation of being "out of control" through my own experiences. And since I have walked the path of illness myself, more than ever before, my heart goes out to those who struggle for that which others take for granted. Life isn't always an easy road, and it only takes a decline in health to bring that reality to heart. And yet, there are those who discover strength to carry them through.
I've entitled this piece "Strength for the Journey". I hope you are encouraged by it. I created a video and placed it on youtube where you can see the progression of the drawing from start to finish. After the introductory slides, there will be some music created by a friend of mine, Brian Heckman, in the background as you watch the portrait take shape.
