Painting - Watercolour
Oil painting of a summer morning with sunlight pouring in through the doorway and a straying Maran hen pecking its way into the traditional Irish country kitchen-see the hand crafted sugan chair,-the seat made of woven straw.
Maran hens and cockerels are clean and docile, with a passive disposition - very likely to wander in to the kitchen !
Marans originated in the French village of Marans about 240 miles southwest of Paris or 100 miles north of Bordeaux. Marans is a port town in the Bay of Biscay.
A steady supply of trade ships over the centuries brought with them new breeds of poultry which were bred with the local chickens, resulting in the Marans varieties we have today.
They lay lovely tasty brown eggs !
