Watercolour painting of a country kitchen on a summer morning with sunlight pouring in and straying Maran hens pecking their way in through the back door of the traditional Irish country kitchen freaturing the hand crafted sugan chair, the seat is made of woven straw. Maran hens and cockerels are clean and docile, with a passive disposition - very likely to wander in to the kitchen !
..... .... ....
Marans originated in the French village of Marans about 240 miles southwest of Paris or 100 miles north of Bordeaux. Marans is a port town in the Bay of Biscay.
A steady supply of trade ships over the centuries brought with them new breeds of poultry which were bred with the local chickens, resulting in the Marans varieties we have today.
They lay lovely tasty brown eggs !
