Description
Anytime we drive by a field that has sunflowers in it, immediately the big bright flower brings a feeling of home and a slower pace of life. It seems to represent everything that is "Country"! This flower perks up our spirits and brings a smile to our face because it represents the enjoyment of life.
The sunflower usually grows to about 6 ft. tall and bears wide bright yellow disc florets with yellow or brown red centers. While growing, the beautiful ray will follow the suns path, but once the flower matures it generally will face east. Sunflowers are known not only for their big cheerful flower heads but also for the seeds that are enjoyed for a nutritious snack for humans as well as food for the birds and squirrels. The bright yellow flower will attract bees which are a great benefit for pollination in agriculture. Sunflowers were grown 1000's of years ago by the Native Americans as an important food source.
This sunflower photo was taken in central Wisconsin in July 2016. It so happens that this beautiful sunflower makes it's home in my garden and I have been waiting with veiled excitement to get a photograph. I hope you enjoy also!
