An alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) suns itself along the shore of 40 Acre Lake at Brazos Bend State Park south of Sugarland Texas, about an hour from downtown Houston (with good traffic, it's Houston after all). While there are tens thousands of alligators in Texas some of the best alligator viewing can be had at Brazos Bend. As part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife system Brazos Bend provides numerous recreational and educational experiences, from birding and hiking to camping and nature programs. Alligators are reptiles and at this size become a threat to humans and our companion animals. Gators should always be treated with respect, not only because of their dangerous nature, but because of their majestic nature.
