Just beneath it is a depiction of the base of a high stone cross with details of figures, domestic animals & poultry exquisitely carved in stone in the 8th century, the tradition of erecting monumental stone high crosses began by the 8th century, they probably followed earlier versions in wood, the painting is completed with swirls from the prehistoric carvings in Newgrange in the foreground.
