Sunset At The Gravelpit
Painting - Oil Paint, Inks
Oil Paints and Inks on 200lb watercolor paper. Open, quiet, peaceful. Cool breeze against a sky that looks like it is burning. This place reminds me of the savannah, though I have never been there. From on high and far enough away, coyotes, deer, fox, porcupines, bobcat and the like go about their business in the distance not noticing you if you are still and quiet, or unless the breeze changes, and you are no longer downwind from them. Then they notice you, smell you, almost immediately. You can tell because their head will spring straight up at attention from down low where their nose just was close to the ground. They stare directly at you. There can be no doubt. But until that moment, the peacefulness and coexistance with the wild animals on this vast open area feels like I imagine the African veldt might look and seem, on a given evening with a sunset like this one.
