On this day, Sunday September 27th 2015, we drove north for three hours from the town of Silverthorne, along I-70, to Estes Park, Colorado, where Rocky Mountain National Park is located. Many people visit during September and October to see the resident elk during their rut, and to witness the amazing transformation of the many aspens covering the foothills of the Continental Divide.
Trail Ridge Road, a 50-mile stretch of US 34 that travels from 7500 ft to a maximum height of 12000, climbs steadily the east side of the Continental Divide through the Fall River Valley to the alpine tundra above the tree line. This image was made from the "Rainbow Curve Overlook" and it was the perfect spot to witness the rise of the Full Moon, which also coincided with the last lunar eclipse before 2033! On this day the moon looked 14% bigger than it does when it becomes full on other occasions.
Thanks for looking.
