What a fascinating creature a caterpillar is. It starts life as a pest and turns into a beautiful butterfly that can help to pollinate our food crops and perpetuate our ability to feed ourselves. According to Wikipedia " Some species of caterpillars are pests because in their larval stages they can damage domestic crops or trees; however, some species are agents of pollination of some plants, and caterpillars of a few butterflies (e.g., Harvesters) eat harmful insects." So truly life can be a matter of perspective and time. How you see something and what role it plays are different depending on when you look at what you are looking at. A caterpillar is a great example of this. Do you see it as a pest or a beautiful creature that helps to feed us?
Nature and life fascinate me. They are an ever evolving portrait of creation and evolution. I love to take so many pictures with my camera and study them and visually explore my world. I see miracles everywhere, and I attempt to create a visual interpretation of what this means to me. My eyes allow me to capture the light that is bouncing off of objects and forms. This capture is sent into my brain to try and interpret. Then I use my hands and my heart to put back into being what I think I have seen. We only exist because something created us. Does that not make us works of art ourselves?
This photograph was taken near Twisp Wa (Washington State), in the beautiful Methow Valley. The Methow is a small jewel of an area not too far from Seattle in the Pacific Northwest. Okanogan County is such a great place to live for all of the sunshine and outdoors recreation.
I started with a digital photograph and used a HDR process to tone map the light. Then I applied a finishing oil paint layer to add texture to the overall image. I did some tonal work to even out the colors and make them realistic to what I was seeing in nature but not excessively.
I am interested in photography as an "unusual" or "unique" image making process. In other words I enjoy starting with a photograph of an ordinary scene or subject and then I try to make it my own by adding unusual processing techniques. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as i enjoy creating it.

"Nestled in a high pocket of the North Cascades, the Methow Valley is the Pacific Northwests destination for trail-based recreation. Sunshine and clear blue skies. Sunflower and lupine-filled hillsides. And plenty of wide open space in which to lengthen your limbs and stretch your soul. You'll find outings here for every skill level: gentle valley-bottom trails perfect for a youngster's first tour in the woods, a riverside picnic by the local swimming hole, or sub-alpine mountain routes that will enchant and challenge even the most seasoned mountain athlete.
There are three, charming, small towns to explore, all with a unique character: Twisp, Winthrop and Mazama. Indulge in locally grown organic produce at a farmers market, enjoy the thriving arts community, linger at the bookstore, sports shop or bakery, or participate in events and festivals most weekends of the summer. Feeling ambitious? Test your skills in a recreational or competitive running or bike event or try out the scenic road biking on virtually traffic-free, riverside, country roads." Cree ate the inner bark in the spring as a mild purgative."
