Painting - Oil On Canvas
This painting was inspired by one of the photos taken by the Hubble telescope. Upon completion of the painting I was aware that the image of an angel had shone through the paint. Several other viewers see the image of a wise old man or sage. I am currently working on a series in oils of other nebulae.
The Swan Nebula is a region of star formation located some 420 million light years away toward the constellation Draco. Star formation is either still ongoing in this nebula, or else has ceased very recently.
To view the incredible images that the Hubble has taken of Nebula, please go to Hubble Images on the internet. You will see the Swan Nebula in photography which I used as my inspiration.
The inconceivable size and grandeur of these cosmic events portray an unparalleled beauty. Instead of feeling relatively small and insignificant as anyone contemplating the universe might, it makes me feel a part of something extraordinary.
If you've always wondered what's beyond our earthly planet, view the amazing photos that have been captured by our space exploration cameras. If you're mind is more creative, has imagination that runs far beyond our galaxies and into the unknown of infinity, consider a beautifully painted image that you can gaze at for hours.
Thank you for viewing. Barbara McMahon
