Merritt Island, Florida

It was the golden hour, as you can see. Actually, this is the tail end of the golden hour. That is when the lighting is particularly beautiful. This happens just after the sun rises and just before the sun sets. I hadn't planned on spending any time at the Viera wetlands but was in the area. I stopped in for the last bit of light before the sun set. I was delighted to note that there was a pair of swans out on one of the lakes. I wasn't sure if I had enough light but I couldn't help giving it an effort. Backlighting can be tricky. I loved the rays of light glowing through the clouds. The swans peacefully cruised around munching on greenery below the water's surface.
I am considering doing a new painting of that location. This wasn't quite what I had in mind but I just may have to do a painting of this scene.
It is fun to see all the various birds returning to their nests in the evening. Some of them move together in flocks and some of them simply pair up. It is unusual to see swans in this location. I have seen the occasional pair of them from time to time. This is the time of year when birds migrate south here to Florida. Yet, I believe that this pair likely resides in the area year round. What ever is the case, I certainly was pleased to see them. I was especially pleased to see them in this light. There was such a feeling of beautiful tranquility.
