Description
This photograph was taken at the top of the Table Rock Trail at Table Rock State Park. If you climb all the way to the top of the trail, you can walk South along the top of the rock to experience several different, beautiful views.
The Table Rock Trail is my favorite trail to run, and Table Rock State Park is one of my very favorite places to spend time. In the spring and fall, I try to run the table Rock Trail at least 2 or 3 times a month. It is 3.6 miles from the trail head to the overlook, and there are several beautiful places to stop and admire the surroundings along the way.
Table Rock gets its name from an old Native American Lore. The Native Americans who originally settled in the area believed that a mighty and giant God used the rock as his table, and a smaller mountain just beside it as a stool. Thus, they named the two mountains Table Rock, and Stool Mountain respectively. When white men took over the lands, they kept the meanings of the words, but translated the names to English.
