Description
Telegraph galvanometer. Historical illustration of a mirror galvanometer forming part of a receiving station for submarine telegraphy. The reading on the galvanometer is indicated by the mirrored light beam falling on the scale at right. Galvanometers are devices that measure the strength and direction of an electric current. In telegraphy, they can be used for indication of signal direction. Batteries and telegraph mechanisms are also shown. Artwork from 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
