Description
Terebinth plant. 16th-century artwork of a terebinth plant (Pistacia terebinthus) with its flowers and leaves. It is also known as the turpentine tree, as turpentine can be obtained by distillation of its resin. This plant is also used for its aromatic and medicinal properties. This woodcut is from 'Vita clarissimi philosophi et medici excellentissimi Conradi Gesneri' (1566) by the Swiss theologian Josias Simmler (1530-1576). This work was a biography of the Swiss naturalist Conrad Gessner (1516-1565).
