Painting - Encaustic Painting On Basswood Panel
Fresh shades of green complement neutral white, greys and taupes in this encaustic abstract painting. Black and orange strokes delineate a horizon with the latter suffusing a burst of color and energy into the painting.
Encaustic paint is a mixture of beeswax, damar (a tree resin that hardens the wax) and colored pigment. The paint is melted at 200F and applied in 6-12 layers onto a stiff substrate. Each layer is fused to the layer beneath to create, in effect, a big ball of wax.
Encaustic's waxy layers create a luminous translucency unparalleled in oils and acrylics. Enjoy the shimmering qualities of "Terra Verdi" which can be readily captured in a canvas, paper or metal reproduction.
