Description
This is a shot of the State Capitol Building in Auston, the seat of power in one of the most influential states in the United States. Whatever your opinion on Texas politics, there can be no denying the significance of this building and the decisions and policies crafted within. For that reason alone it is an interesting photographic subject. However, from a simple photographic perspective it is a interesting subject to cover and compositionally it offers a number of fantastic opportunities. This shot in particular is taken from a position which offers some interesting lead line features the art of using natural or man-built features in the photograph which draw the eye through the image to the main focal point. In this case, that would be the kerb (or curb as they say in the US) which runs nicely up to the main entrance to the building. This shot was taken on Thanksgiving weekend in 2013, when the number of tourists seemed surprisingly low, which made the photography so much easier.
