Description
TFAM transcription factor bound to DNA, molecular model. Human mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM, green) bound to a strand of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid, blue and pink). TFAM plays a vital role in the activation of transcription in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). It also plays a role in mtDNA packaging and maintenance. It does this by binding to and bending the DNA, as shown here. Mitochondria are organelles that generate energy within cells.
