The American Beauty Box Because of growing up in a society where women are still judged by the way we look and not by our intellectual accomplishments, many women are brainwashed into what I call the standard of The American Beauty Box - which is, staying as skinny as all hell, trying to never get old and wearing only designer clothing. When a woman meets these guidelines, she is treated as though she won the Nobel Peace Prize. Our brain is the only body part that has not yet been valued. Soraida Martinez 1996
