The Antennae Galaxies
Photograph - Photograph
The Antennae Galaxies, NGC 4038 and NGC 4039, are a pair of interacting galaxies in the constellation Corvus. There appears to be a very large gravitationally bound mass of new stars near the end of the southern tail. Star formation occurs in the arcs which is exactly what we see occurring in the Antennae merger.
