This section of the Appalachian Trail is so scenic, straddling the ridge between Tennessee and North Carolina from Newfound Gap to Charlie's Bunion. This image was captured on a misty June morning just as the fog of the Blue Ridge mountains was lifting to reveal the sunshine pouring through the trees above the trail. This section to Charlie's Bunion and back is about 8 miles and has several scenic overlooks along the way, a challenging rocky climb right out of Newfound Gap until it levels off a bit along the ridge past the Boulevard Trail and the shelter and on to the Bunion which makes the arduous hike totally worthwhile with wonderful high overlooks from the rocky ledge...
