The Bear Trap
Sculpture - Bronze And Granite
Willoughby was a great champion of wild animals, and this sculpture of the mountain man caught in his own trap was a metaphor for our treatment of nature and the planet as a whole. Completed around 1982, he mounted the bronze figures onto pieces of granite from our land around our log cabin in the Cedar Breaks near Saratoga, Wyoming. This granite is so hard that he broke many diamond drill bits in the process.
