The Beast And Nahamanides In Shitaki Forest
Drawing - Color Pencils, Markers, Pen And Ink
This is one of 195 illustrations from the first book of the adventure/fantasy series titled "The Vine Of Hours". I am the author/illustrator. The Beast has enlisted Nahamanides, a highly regarded alchemist and magician to assist him in his enterprise. Nahamanides hails from among the ranks of a relatively recently arrived group of immigrants presently unwelcome in their newly adopted home country. They have been subject to almost unrelenting scorn and intermittent hate crimes from the general population since their arrival. Nahamanides is willing to help the Beast free his friend Fukullol from his occult imprisonment because he also has a relationship with Fukullol which dates back to the old country they both originally came from. The Beast is not aware of this connection between them and came to Nahamanides after many rejections from other sorcerers who refused to become involved in any enterprise that went against The Alchemist's Society. Nahamanides' name was given to The Beast by an old monk, a longtime friend,Tristmagustus the elder. The magical entrapment of Fukullol, a member of the Order Of The Alchemist Society, was inflicted upon him by his compatriots because of some supposed transgression by Fukullol of their Order's inviolable tenants. Therion, The Beast, does not recognize their authority to do this, as powerful and influential an Order as they may be. Even if Fukullol had broken some oath to them, which he doubts, The Beast does not care about such things where his loyalty to his friends is concerned. He has set out determined to free Fukullol, known locally as "the old man" from his magical imprisonment in his own cabin, from a kind of mystical house arrest, except that it is transformative, and permanent. On his way there, The Beast comes to a high bluff deep in the Shitaki Forests where he pulls back on his great mount Blazing Star to a halt. "Star" is a princess from the present royal first family of the horse world. One of her sisters is Lapeche, undisputed Queen of all horses. They are waiting for Nahamanides, the magician, on Isoldare, to catch up. He is only at best a sometimes horseman. The Beast thinks to himself as he waits, " I hope his skills as a sorcerer outstrip his skills as a rider, and if not, we will all be lost and never heard from again."
