The Beast Is Sighted Leaving The Red Legged Hen
Drawing - Pen And Ink, Markers
This is one of 195 illustrations from the first book of the fantasy/adventure series titled "The Vine Of Hours". I am the author/illustrator. The Beast has asked for a meeting with Tristmagustus the Younger, head of his friend Fukullol's Order, named The Alchemist Society. It is a collection of alchemists, sorcerers really, and an old and venerable Order that has endured because it is a powerful and influential organization. His request is immediately granted, and by Tristmagustus himself, no less, as the Beast suspected it might since they are indebted to him several times over. He has provided discreet and effective service at their behest more than once over the years. He is a proven, if not completely trusted resource. They consider the Beast too powerful in his own right to be comfortable around him. He has a very high resistance to magicical spells so is beyond their clandestine influences. But he is not trusted most especially because he is as independent and resourceful a being as he is. They cannot predictably control him, so The Society treads carefully around him. They do not fear him but see no reason to start trouble unnecessarily. Even so, they have been happy to use him over the years in a carefully limited way. He doesn't mind. He has been accumulating favor with them for just a time like this. He knows most sorcerers are not to be fooled with, and it is better, if possible, to remain on their good side. His friend, Fukullol, also a sorcerer, has gone missing, and he has heard whispers that it has something to do with Society business. He is here to find out if that is true. The Beast meets with Tristmagustus the Younger and two of his aides. When this meeting ends unsatisfactorally, the annoyed Beast leaves right after the alchemists do, staying behind to pay the tab. It was his party after all. As he leaves The Red Legged Hen he is sighted by two others in a clandestine meeting of their own, Asema and Leeward, the human manifestation of Leshzwee, The Forest Lord, negotiating with the King's Chamberlain, Rathbone, about a possible collaboration.
