The Blue-green Forest
Derek Van Derven
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas Panel
This was the first realistic painting I had ever done as a painter. I did it at the age of 17 and it took me approximately a month to do, and I have to say, finishing it was HARD work. But this painting is one I will never sell. It is important in my family, and is representative of a lot of things that happened to me in my life and the formation of my personality. At different stages of my life, the man hugging the tree, the tree signifies different things. It used to signify hiding, then a woman, then God. At each stage of my life, the symbol of the tree changes, and the meaning of me behind it changes. This work of art truly changes with time, and its meaning changes as I grow older, yet it does not age like I do.
