The Bulldozing Of Crystal Cove
Painting - Oil On Canvas
This painting is an ode to a simpler time, when you did not have to be a millionaire to enjoy Southern California. Crystal Cove is immediately north of the Laguna Beach city limits, but the couple of miles that used to be between Corona Del Mar and Laguna is the general area subject "stage."
The central figure is naked , but hardly lascivious. All the figures are not clothed, so as to convey their innocence. A garden of Eden, Pre-Fall, kind of. I actually am ancient enough to remember girls streaking down Pacific Coast Highway laughing their heads off in the 70s.
The guy on the left is a Californio, a mixture of Spanish and Mexican and caucasian. The guy with the top hat is the developer about to end the innocence and charge them money to be on the cliff. There is a Cadillac hearse just above the flower: A Death of sorts awaits. A next door neighbor was into Reiki healing and she inspired the Celestial Rays coming to her healing hands.
I am interested in form, composition, color, contrast, and design at all times in addition to the obvious allegory and metaphor construction.
I may offer FAA prints by month's end.
Thanks to all the viewers of the piece. I'm truly moved.
