Description:

The Caryatid is a modern interpretation of the Greek myth about the fate of the Laconian women who were condemned to support unbearable weights. The Caryatid exudes a pillar-like quality, just as images of the Karyios women were represented in Greece as columns. Her body is bent back as if under great pressure. The draped cloth is slipping from her, momentarily caught on her hips. The enfolding cloth envelops her legs and further accentuates her pillarlike quality. The essential fragmented figure is emerging above.
