The Dawn Treader - Riding The Waves
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
I love books. They are magical instruments that transport you into other worlds. I first experienced this magic with the Narnia books by C. S. Lewis. I believed there was a Narnia. Part of me, the creative part, still does believe and this painting is part of a continuing series depicting my vision of events in these beloved books. The Dawn Treader riding the waves is a scene from my imagination of what the movie version of the famous ship would look like riding proudly through the seas of Narnia.
The Dawn Treader was the first ship that Narnia had seen in centuries. King Caspian had built it for his voyage to find seven lords. They were very good men, whom his uncle, Miraz, banished when he took over the throne. In this wonderful tale, Edmund, Lucy and their pain-in-the-neck cousin, Eustace travel to the Eastern Isands, beyond the Silver Sea, towards Aslan's country at the End of the World. One of the most endearing creatures in this book is Reepicheep, the Chief Mouse. He is the self-appointed servant to Prince Caspian and perhaps the most valiant knight in all of Narnia. His chivalry is unsurpassed, as also are his courage and skill with the sword.
Narnia....the world of wicked dragons and magic spells...where the very best is brought out of even the worst and annoying people ( think Eustace!)... where anything can happen and often does. The adventure starts in the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and continues on through all seven books.
