The Dumas Brothel - Butte Montana

The DUMAS BROTHEL of Butte Montana recently featured on the paranormal television program HAUNTED COLLECTOR.
It was built in 1890 in the rare Victorian Bordello Style and is the only one left of its kind in the United States. It was the longest running house of prostitution in America operating legally from 1890 until closure in 1982. Butte had a huge Red Light District which is attributed to all the mining industry, and the DUMAS was the grandest, largest, and busiest of them all.
The mines operated 24 hours a day 7 days a week and so did the DUMAS. It's 43 rooms were sought after by ladies of the trade and the brothel kept the same hours as the mines running women in three shifts. At one time, Butte was known as the Richest Hill on Earth from the metals extracted from the mines with several of the richest men in the world living there.
After closure, the brothel became a museum for awhile, but fell into disrepair. It sat empty for awhile hoping for a path to restoration, but may now be operating as a museum again. The interior still has many of the artifacts and interior decor from its bordello era. And, the place is reputed to be one of the most haunted buildings in America.
