Although I'm now in some pinkish ''spring'' mood, I'm deeply fascinated by your ''blacks'' in this amazing painting, Bob. Such power of expression that I saw only in your exquisite paintings. f,l

THIS IS A FANTASTIC DEPICTION OF EDGAR POE "S GREAT SHORT STORY, YOU EXCEEDED POE HIMSELF IN HIS DARK, GOTHIC DESCRIPTION OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, YOUR USE OF DISTORTED COLORS AND SHAPED ACCENTUATES THE EFFECT

R W Goetting replied:

Very fine comments Omar, I so much appreciate it. Thank you!!

This is such an awesome painting, Bob! A painting inspired by a story of Edgar Allen Poe...this is great! :) And you so finely depicted the macabre atmosphere you spoke about... Loved your description, made me smile... "creepy greens and violets" indeed :)) F&V

RW, this has a very creepy feeling to it and that is the whole point. Eh? Very interestingly executed too. Like a Whistler in its vague appearance.

What I like about this painting R W is the ambiguity of the subject-matter, the marks of the palette knife and the darkness (all-together they make for a fine painting) Jean :)

R W Goetting replied:

Thank you so much Jean, I had a lot of fun painting this, for the reasons you mention!!

This is simply breathtaking, Bob !!!!!! And yes, I can see those greens and violets you're talking about in the description, I see all those superb deep ultramarine and prussian blue shades and those brilliant spots of light in cadmium yellow and red and orange and the magenta pinks ........ Love, love this painting !!!!!!! f,v

R W Goetting replied:

Thank you for your kind words Ana Maria! I am so glad those colors came through. This was fun to paint. Prussian blue is such a strange pigment, it's like black hole paint, you have to be careful or everthing disappears in it!!

This is cool. I'm a fan of Edgar Allen Poe and I read those stories as a kid too. I still watch the movies with Vincent Price. Great creepy tales. I also love those movies because they often featured creepy artwork, usually portraits in ornate frames. They often conveyed or held some dark influence.

R W Goetting replied:

Aren't those old black and whites the best?!? We are big Vincent Price fans, completely agree with you there. You are right about the artwork in those old movies too! Glad you liked this one, thank you!
