Description
I have owned a book of Edgar Allen Poe's short stories since I was a kid many moons ago. I still have it, and it is illustrated in a most amusing style. Flat color planes, graffic line drawing, dramatic use of tone..........similar to Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec. Of course, I made the mistake of reading these stories at night, and they scared the daylights out of me....especially the Tell Tale Heart...........But this painting is about the Fall of the House of Usher. This is painted over several previous efforts of various topics, giving it a rough, jagged surface that is suitable for the subject. I am not sure it translates in the photography, but there are some kinda creepy greens and violets that appear here and there............darn prussian blue......I try not to use it but............for macabre scenes...............

Although I'm now in some pinkish ''spring'' mood, I'm deeply fascinated by your ''blacks'' in this amazing painting, Bob. Such power of expression that I saw only in your exquisite paintings. f,l

THIS IS A FANTASTIC DEPICTION OF EDGAR POE "S GREAT SHORT STORY, YOU EXCEEDED POE HIMSELF IN HIS DARK, GOTHIC DESCRIPTION OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, YOUR USE OF DISTORTED COLORS AND SHAPED ACCENTUATES THE EFFECT
