The Good Life
Photograph - Photography
I have spent most of my adult life in military uniforms or jobs that required a tie. I decided to go back to school in the fall of 2012 and pursue a graduate level degree but before I go back to the world of suits and ties I took a little time off to shoot rural Virginia just outside the reach of suburban Washington DC. While Fauquier and Stafford Counties are still quite rural though they are rapidly becoming more and more a part of suburban DC. Prince Williams County has long been suburban in parts but its more rural areas are rapidly giving way to housing developments as well. In April of 2012 I shed the ties and moved to rural Fauquier County and set out on my mission to document the rural and natural beauty of the area before it disappears forever. I have shot barns and mountain streams. I have found wonderful antique tractors and black widow spiders. I have explored abandoned farmhouses and even found my creepy model doll red and set about to rehabilitate her. I traded in the ties for combat boots, tactical pants and a jungle hat. I went from clean shaven with a high and tight to a little longer hair and full beard.
Soon enough, I will return to the clean shaven suit and tie crowd but I thought it was worth documenting my own condition and appearance at the end of a day shooting rural Virginia. Yupp, life is good....
