The Great God Pan Plays
Photograph - Stained Glass And Digital
The Great God Pan Plays is a stained window that my husband & created in our stained glass studio, RoPa Designs. The window was a commission for a bookstore window in Catskill, New York. First a cartoon design was made. Then that design was transferred onto kraft paper and cut into numbered pieces that match the cartoon for the pattern to be followed for cutting the glass. The glass is assembled in the Tiffany style of stained glass.
I took a photo of the window. We always take photographs of all our works. I upload the image on to my computer and added some of the border work.
Here is a little about the Great God Pan: "Pan had many attributes as a god. He was the god of goats, and sheep, and their shepherds. He was the god of bee keeping. He was also a god of music, playing upon the reed pipes he made from the transformed body of the nymph Syrinx (the one that got away). It was said that this music could inspire panic (the root of the word) in any who heard it. Sometimes he was a minor god of the sea. He was a god of prophesy and was also famous for being randy (Greek women with a track record were known as Pan girls). Above all he was the god of nature: meadows, forests, beasts, and even human nature."
