Description:

"Dress for success!" You've heard this phrase. It's a fact that people spend a lot of time trying to convince others that they "are who they are"; that they possess something that they inherit power from. Politicians and the military are primary examples of this, but we all play this game. The way we dress is another form of communication and is often consciously used to further our aims. Both the power suit and tie and the military uniform are symbols meant to control viewers perceptions. But, hold it! There's no such thing as control. Control is mythical, so these costumes are illusions and tricks of magic. They are invested with power by the very people they're meant to control. This diptych is my portrait of power.
