The Joys Of Cruising By Trish Hebendahl ~ My husband and I went on a 12-night cruise in December 2007 that departed from New Jersey. The forecast for the following day wasn't hopeful due to a very large low pressure system that was heading straight for us. Needless to say we had two very interesting days at sea!
During the second day of our cruise, we encountered winds over 100mph and swells over 42 feet. It was a wild ride and sadly many passengers as well as crew were sick from the ship pitching so much.
The best view of this intense storm was from the Viking Crown Lounge on Deck 14. As always, camera was in hand and ready for that digital moment. Well... I got it!
As I was watching the waves crash against the starboard side of the ship, I decided to take some pictures. Well this image says it all! Timing was perfect on how this wave slammed into the ship. No more I put my camera down, the water hit the windows right in front of me! Several passengers nearby were stunned as well, especially being so high up on the ship.
It was a great cruise even with all the weather issues we encountered along the way. Luckily no one got injured but the ship did have some minor damage.
For those that are curious... yes my husband and I still cruise!

Hi Karen! Thanks so much for the compliment. My husband and I have been cruising since 1992 and this was the first time we experienced a storm like this. Sailing in the Atlantic Ocean can be risky since you never know what you'll encounter. Luckily we've been blessed with calm or moderate seas which is fine with me! :-)
