The Last Queen Of Korea
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Queen Min also known as Empress Myeongsong was last Queen of Korea and ruled from 1866 to 1895. The Queen ruled with her husband, but was distinctly more politically active and decisive than her husband.
Upon her death, the king secluded himself in his chambers for several weeks, refusing to assume his duties. The king’s grief and mourning for the queen was immense. Her funeral procession included thousands of people, hundreds of scrolls honoring her, and even giant wooden horses intended for her use in the afterlife. The lavish mourning was a statement nation and of the king’s undying love for their Queen.
