Thanks Deborah! I'm so glad you like it! I know what you mean. I sometimes just stop and look in the houses and listen to the peace and quiet and wonder what it used to be like when it was full of people and laughter.

Your title really makes me take a second look at your fine photo of this old back screen door. I am left to ponder many things, like, the life that was lived through the years beyond this door.

Thanks very much Melissa! These homes became part of the Smokies national park after it was formed back in the early 30's but they paid the property owners for their homes and gave them life time leases and after they passed away each home became part of the park. I think the last one was vacated in the early 90's.

I'm always so torn when I see rust and peeling paint on stuff. On one hand I'm thinking 'awww, look at that beautiful patina!' On the other, it's a reminder that someone was unable to take care of their home or had to abandon it...that part pulls at 'cha a bit...I do love the rust and patina here ;o)
