Description
The painting titled "The Oregon Trail" was commissioned for the 150th Anniversary Celebration. On top of the painting is Independence Missouri then the Rocky Mountains. The Settlers would arrive at Fort Boise and head through the Columbia Gorge toward the Whitman Mission. Stephen Meek convinced well over 1000 settlers to take what is now called "The Meek Cutoff" through the high desert of eastern Oregon. Many people perished due to lack of water and food. A movie was filmed about the story that you can find a snip-it of it on Google. You can find me painting the painting on one of the plateaus. The famous "Blue Bucket of Gold" can also be scene in the painting.....the first bucket of gold ever found west of the Mississippi. The bucket of Gold was lost in the high desert of Oregon and became a wonderful story handed down through generations. A treasure just waiting to be discovered....by YOU! I included lots of little details on the painting. Look closely!
