the place of the Beis HaMikdash 2
David Baruch Wolk
Painting - Oil On Canvas
In the place of the Bais HaMikdash (Holy Temple) are attached and dependent all the letters of the alef-bais (Holy alphabet) in allusions etched in Holy Names (of Hashem), and woven upon it every world, above and below, entirely in the secret (meaning) of the letters engraved and etched, and secret (meaning)s of the highest Holy Name upon it, etched in the Mishcan (Holy Tabernacle), etched and 'painted': the letters, as are fitting. For behold; Betzalel knew the wisdom to connect the letters from which were created Heaven and earth, and from his wisdom was created the Mishcan; from that, he was chosen from all the nation of Israel.
I have left certain places in this translation ambiguous
This painting is very close to me in that it encompasses the major matters of my work, that is; the connection of the letters to the Holiest realms, the creation of the world through these letters as a place for the dwelling of the Divine Presence, that is; the parallel between the creation of the world and the creation of the Mishcan and the Mikdash, teaching that the world is also created for the sake of the dwelling of the Divine Presence. Also the role of Betzalel, the artist, signifying man's role in this Holy creation; that Hashem, in His awesome wisdom and humility chose that man would be able to elevate himself to the level of 'knowing the wisdom of connecting the letters from which were formed Heaven and earth in order to create a dwelling for the Divine.
