The Reappearance Of Sound
Painting - Digital Painting
This is a variation on the concept and description for "The Disappearance of Sound." Most of us are visual. But today on National Public Radio I heard a man named Bernie who used to be with a rock band, but who went back to school to get a Ph.D. in soundology. He was talking about the disappearance of sound in the cacophony of today's modern world. He gave an example of people who wanted to do "selective logging," as opposed to clear-cutting whole areas of forest. They claimed it would do so much less damage to the ecology....they guaranteed it. He set up his sound equipment at the beginning of the selective logging and what I heard were the sounds of glorious birds of every kind singing, warbling, and expressing their bird songs. He went back one month later to record the sounds of the forest and all I heard was a brook. Not one sound of one bird. Think about that for a while.
