The Scream Not Heard
Painting - Acrylic On Board
This represents one of the most anguished moments of my life My dear, loving and deeply disturbed father had been taken to a locked mental ward shortly after I left for college. At the time I painted it I had never seen The Scream by Edvard Munch. Only this week did I learn that Munch had a sister who suffered with mental illness and had been institutionalized. He apparently said that his art work was a scream of nature - perhaps related to death. Mine was a silent scream of intense inner pain relating to the despair of living.
