The Scream Of A Butterfly
Painting - Mixed Media Collage And Assemblage On Hardboard.
I created this collage in an attempt to show the horror of global warming and how ineffectual the Kyoto Protocol is, using Jim Morrison's and The Doors lyrics of When The Music's Over to work from.
I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a semi-finalist in a Saatchi Showdown and this collage is now a Saatchi curated artwork.
The mixed media used is pastel, black ink, gold paint and gold leaf for the sun, and I cut out pictures of butterflies from my own paintings which had been printed as cards. Found items include pressed grasses and leaves; birch bark; rocks with fossil fragments; Old Man's Beard hanging from dead trees in the forest; and fragments from a hornet's discarded paper nest. The photograph of Jim Morrison's tombstone was taken by myself when I visited the Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris.
The watermark does not appear in the final printed product.
