The Staring Eagle
Photograph - Photography And Textures By Gary Smith
The Great American Bald Eagle is a vibrant and beautiful bird to watch and to photograph. I can never spend enough time with this bird when I am out in the forest of Northern Maine. During the cold and frigid winter months is when I enjoy photographing the Bald Eagle the most. Their feathers and down coating are thick and rich in colors which really bring out the markings around the face.
I moved to Northern Maine 5 years ago and this is when I discovered what the definition of chilling to the bone actually means. When the temperatures reach -49 and you experience Ice fog you don't feel the cold instantly, for it is almost like it numbs you first. On a day just as I described is when I first discovered a location where I found 7 Eagles Nest residing in the same area, like a little village of Eagles and this is a remarkable sight to see.
I decided to bring this image to life by processing it in a different way to help show the beauty of this gorgeous Eagle. Many layers of dodging, burning, tracing along with a few textures I have created were used to create this image.
