Taken on April 17th, the day Rita MacNeil's death was announced. She was 68 years old and a true ambassador in every since of the word, for the Cape Breton island.
Throughout her career she did more for Cape Breton Island, and perhaps even Nova Scotia, than many of our elected officials. An exception performer and widely considered to be a genuinely wonderful person, her tea room was a frequent stopping point for both locals and tourists in Cape Breton.
This year has marked the deaths of both Rita MacNeil and Stompin' Tom Connors. It's been a tough year for Canadian icons.
