As tears flow from my eyes - this is so our Gidgette Ann. Yesterday we had to put her down after being a part of our family for 12 years. She was the best friend anyone could of ever asked for. She was rescued from the pound in Anchorage, Alaska by our daughter. From her jumping on the trampoline with our younger daughter in her younger years to waking me up each morning with her nose lifting my arm as to say "Hey time to get up and pet me". Nothing will ever replace her. When we get her ashes back I am going to order :Come Walk with Me" to be placed over our fireplace. Thank you.

Sue Long replied:

Lorie, so sorry to read about the loss of your girl. I too have lost many special friends. It's hard to put into words how much they weave their way into the fabric of our lives, they truly are family. Even though their loss brings us so much pain and sadness we truly would have missed out on some of life's most precious moments if we never had them walk by our side...however briefly. They are all special in their own way but a dog that has been rescued seems to know that they have been given a gift, a second chance , and they seem to want to make the most of their every moment with us . I wish you peace in your heart. God Speed Gidgette were loved xx ~Sue

I just love "The Way" Thank you so much for everything you do in the rescue world! You have a kind & caring heart, Sue! Congrats on your sale.

Sue Long replied:

Thanks so much Fiona! The shelters are full of so many loving and gentle souls that never make it out....all because their irresponsible owners looked at them as being "disposable". Being able to contribute to help save even a few is something I'm honored to do. Having rescued your beautiful "Shadows" you know well the light and love they bring to our lives. Thank you as well for your rescue contributions :)

This so touched my heart with it's truth of the sorrow and pain of having to let your friend go when it is time because I have to do it too many times. Right now I have a Belgian Malinois that I rescued at 3 months. He has the same gorgeous face and eyes as the dog in your work and it just took my breath away. His story is with the photography on my website entitled Rescued Belgian Malinois.

Sue Long replied:

Thanks so much for your kind words Barbara! I checked out your Malinois, he's a beautiful boy who is very lucky to have had you rescue him :)

Dear Sue, Your poem touched my heart & soul more than I can describe.. I have rescued working dogs for many, many years and I had to say 'good-bye' so many painful times. As of today, I am facing yet another moment painful beyond any imagination. My beloved GSD named 'BARTEK' has degenerative spine disease & can't walk on his own without support.. He has been a SAR dog, a real hero, he saved lives and now, I cannot save his... I am looking for guidance & support, so I can face that awful moment rapidly approaching. Thank you for a very beautiful poem, I can't stop crying... Love - Basia

Sue Long replied:

Basia, so very sorry to hear your boy has reached that point. I have lost many a beloved friend to degenerative spinal disease as well.Unfortunately it never gets any easier. Each and everyone I've felt it has been a privilige to have had them share their journey with me, however short. I take comfort in the fact that knowing, when they reach that point that I am not left with having to let them suffer a slow and painful end.It is the last honor I can bestow on my friend, to know when it is time and to be there with him when he crosses so that he knows all the love that is going with him. I wish you strength at this time.....and peace in your heart xo

Today, my beloved Maximus has gone ahead, and crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I am honored that he was with us for more than 10 years. I hope that you will come back and lead Brutus and I over in our times. I love you Baby boy.

Sue Long replied:

Mark, so very sorry to hear of your Maximus's crossing; I have been there many times myself and it never gets any easier. The Way was written with them in mind, it's as if they whispered the words to me as it came out of nowhere. I am sure he will be there to show you the way when that time comes; until then hold his memories close....a guardian Angel now walks by your side.
