The legendary West End of Vancouver, like much of the area here along the coast, was originally a vast, uninhabited forest.
Today, this vibrant city neighbourhood is a hub of cosmopolitan flavours and inhabitants which had the reputation of being one of the most densely populated urban neighbourhoods in the country. (There are actually more residents in this district alone than the entire city I live in ... across the Lion's Gate Bridge, to the north shore of Metro Vancouver).
The shoreline of the West End is the iconic English Bay, and while this image doesn't show it, there are several beaches, parks and trails in the district. Shopping, businesses, restaurants, housing, transit, and more ... the West End is a favoured area to live for reasons as diverse as its inhabitants. It is a also a favourite destination for visitors to the city metropolis.

The original photograph was taken on a bright, autumn day across the Bay, looking towards the West End.
It was digitally enhanced to highlight the West End's reflective glass structures and shoreline, the modernity of its urban planning, and its sheltering big sky overhead.
