Description
The Widow is a painting based on when I experienced the death of my fiancee and boyfriend. I wasn't married but I imagined what it would be to be an old lady and have my husband of many years to die and to be all alone. Although this wasn't my situation, I was still going through a very traumatic time. I felt alone. I felt like no one could understand and the world seemed to be a very dark place and yet at the same time there was the vibration of life in me. The knowing that I could not die because there was still desire for more to accomplish in life. So when I painted this, I imagined a little old lady with an old-fashioned hat on her head and a huge black dress that covered her completely. The purple vibrating around her was the lifeforce within her that while weak at that traumatic time in her life was still present and the purple blog in the middle of her black shapeless dress with the painful area where her heart was. She was alone and isolated and yet because she felt that she had experienced unconditional love and knew she had been loved, that she was also solid which is why the base of her dress was so much larger than it might be in reality. She had a solid foundation to support her and give her strength. She was facing the world alone and yet she would continue on. This is what inspired me to paint this picture.
It's interesting because when others see it, some have seen the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. I enjoyed painting this in an abstract or expressionistic way because it left the painting open to the interpretations of others. I found that when other people viewed it, in a way the meaning that they gave to the painting made the painting actually alive and creative in its interpretation. As if it evolved on its own outside of my hand.
Thank you for taking the time to view this. I would love to hear what you have to say on this painting. In the meantime, I have moved on in my life and found love again and gotten married so it is nice that life is always waiting for you to inspire you and keep you continuing on.
