This is Siskiyou, a northern spotted owl (Strix occidentalis occidentalis), in captivity at the zoo. Thought to be a male, the bird was found with a broken w ing in 1992 in the Falls Creek area of the Willamette National Forest. It was later necessary to remove a large portion of his wing, so he is now unreleasable. Con servationists want to preserve this bird's habitat; the logging industry is in opposition.
